Breaking Word Curses and Inner Vows

Word Curses

Word curses are spoken words from parents, doctors, spouses, those in authority over us, ourselves, or others that were full of condemnation and negativity. For example, “you’re fat, you are stupid, you will never amount to anything, you always mess up, I don’t know why we had you, you do not belong in our group, I hate myself, I will never get better, I would be better off dead, I wish I had never been born, etc.” These words can create agreements with the lies and open the door to curses, thereby allowing them to form in our lives. Life and death are in our words, and when spoken with authority, they can create curses in our lives that must be broken.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their word. Proverbs 18:21, AMP.

The curses can allow demons to attach to us which often bring the words to reality in our lives. The words can be connected to things such as our identity, careers, sickness, relationships, and our future.

Breaking Word Curses

The first step is to make a list of curses others have spoken over our lives and ones we have spoken over ourselves. Next, we need to forgive each person, including ourselves. The curses can be broken by praying the following prayer, but keep in mind this is just an outline to get you going. Use your own words and spend time in prayer as the Lord leads. Be real and personal with Him as you pray and show Him your entire heart. Make sure to verbalize your prayers. Anytime we are doing spiritual warfare or deliverance we should be verbalizing our prayers. There is power in our words, and we must allow the enemy to hear the curses and bondages being broken off our lives.

“I break agreement with, and renounce all word curses, either spoken over me by others or that I have spoken over myself. Lord, forgive me for believing the lies of these curses. Forgive me for living in bondage to them. Forgive me for any false judgments I made about myself and others because of the word curses. I ask for You to break all assignments and plans of the enemy attached to those curses and I ask You to make them null, void, and powerless. I pray You break the power of those words and attitudes and their influence over my life in the name of Jesus. I pray You uproot each one of them and all the feelings attached to them. I also pray You would forgive me for speaking negative words over others and break any words that have resulted in curses over the lives of others. Father I am truly sorry for every careless word that has ever come out of my mouth. Please cleanse my mouth, my heart, my mind, my thoughts, and my words in the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.”

Inner Vows

Inner vows usually result from negative experiences in life, and they are declarations or promises we make over our lives. They will usually come true even if we do not really mean them. Life and death are in the power of our tongue. We can create these vows over our lives and then suffer the consequences of them because they are the same as signing a legal contract over our lives in the spiritual realm.

For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. Matthew 12:37, AMP.

Some examples are: “Because people have hurt me, I will never trust again. All men/women are bad so I will never find a good one. I will be alone for the rest of my life. People always let me down so I will never let anyone get close to me. I am the only one I can depend on. I will never get anywhere in life, so I am done trying. I will never let anyone control me. I must always look perfect. God let me down so I cannot trust Him. The doctor said I will struggle with this condition for the rest of my life so there is no hope of getting better.”

Breaking Inner Vows

The inner vows can be broken by verbally praying the following prayer: but again, keep in mind this is just an outline to get you going. Use your own words and spend time in prayer as the Lord leads.

“Lord, forgive me for making these vows (list them). I pray You break the power of every vow I spoke over my life in the name of Jesus. I bind and rebuke all demons assigned to bring those vows to pass in my life in the name of Jesus. I forgive myself for having made these vows. I now release my will, authority, and power over this part of my life and willingly give it back to You Lord to be under Your will, authority, and power. I receive freedom in the name of Jesus, and I will carefully watch every word I speak from now on. I will not be careless with the things I let come out of my mouth. Thank you, Lord, for Your freedom.”

Once the word curses and inner vows are broken the lies must be replaced with the truth found in the Word of God. When the lies come verbally rebuke them in the name of Jesus, call them out as a lie, and then replace them with the Word of God. Find the truth about yourself in the Word of God and speak it often over your life. Do not give the lies one moment in your mind.
