A Call to Surrender

The Lord has been laying surrender on my heart for several months, maybe even longer. I think it is the key to walking in victory in every area of our lives. When we lay everything we have down at His feet we can truly walk in the identity He has given us and in the purposes He has for us. Complete surrender includes stripping off everything we have allowed to attach to our identity that is not from God. The world, demons, experiences, trauma, family, friends, and even ourselves will try to attach things to our identity that is not from God. We must recognize the false aspects of our identity, come out of agreement with them, and allow God to strip them away.

We must also be willing to lay all our hopes, dreams, plans, and will down at His feet and honestly say to Him “not my will, Lord, but Yours.” We have to come to the place where we are willing to follow His will no matter what it looks like and what it cost.

Mark 14:35-36 After going a little farther, He fell to the ground [distressed by the weight of His spiritual burden] and began to pray that if it were possible [in the Father’s will], the hour [of suffering and death for the sins of mankind] might pass from Him. He was saying, “Abba, Father! All things are possible for You; take this cup [of judgment] away from Me; but not what I will, but what You will.”

His plan is perfect, and His will is perfect. If we want to walk in His perfect plan we must first be willing to submit to Him, fully 100% not 50%, not 90% and not even 95%, but 100%. He is looking for people who will give Him everything. The one thing that we are holding back is the one thing He wants most. It is time for total submission because it is not only key in our walk with the Lord, but also to victory in every area of our lives.

When we lay ourselves down we gain so much more. He is made strong in our weakness. We cannot do life our way, we mess it up every single time, but His way is perfect. If we could just get to a place where we really trust Him and His plan our lives would never be the same.

We need to spend some time in self-reflection and ask ourselves what am I holding back? What is the area of my life that I have not trusted Him fully with? What is the thing that I have not been willing to lay down? Is it my relationships, the future, my job, kids, an attitude that I know He does not want me to have, fear, trauma, unforgiveness, pain, hurt, bitterness, a situation that I want my way and not His? Is there anything in my life that I hold more important that God? Is there anything that I would refuse to give Him or lay down if He told me to?

Are you willing to take the thing that you want most: your hopes, dreams, plans, and lay it down at the feet of Jesus and say not my will Lord but Yours? “If I never do any of these things Your will not mine.” When we fully surrender it doesn’t matter what it looks like we say “yes Lord and I thank You.” “I may not understand, but You know more than me and I trust You with my entire life.”

We can never receive all He has for us until we lay everything down. We cannot accept His best if we are holding on to things that are not from Him. We have to be empty so He can pour in. When we decrease He increases.
