The topic of mental illness and the root causes is often not talked about enough, especially in the church. When it is brought up in the church the person who is suffering from the symptoms are often told to pray more, lay it down at the altar, don’t pick it back up, and stand by faith for their healing. A lot of the time they are not offered real tangible help. So they are left feeling like a failure and like they have done something wrong which leads to isolation and increased symptoms of mental illness.

There are different root causes of mental illness. Some possible root causes include demonic torment, trauma, physical issues such as hormone imbalances, imbalances, other physical diagnoses that include symptoms of mental illness, and a mixture of more than one root cause. In my life the root cause of the mental illness I suffered was from trauma and demonic torment.

Even when mental illness is discussed in the church it is usually just talked about as far as the medical side of it and not the spiritual and demonic side of it. There are not enough churches teaching about the possibility of the demonic aspect of mental illness and the way the demons can torment the person and cause mental illness.

When the root cause is demonic the only cure is deliverance, and it can look different for different people. God can step in and absolutely just set the person free. Other times it takes removing the legal rights of the demons and then verbally casting them out. When demonization (demonic oppression) is the issue there has to be a deliverance. Also, in my experience (both personal and in ministry) when there is trauma many times there needs to be healing from the trauma and deliverance. Trauma is a huge open door to demons because they will often latch on to the pain and create major torment.

I was diagnosed with Clinical Depression, PTSD, and Dissociative Identity Disorder as a result of childhood sexual abuse and part of the PTSD came from a DV relationship. In my case I was not healed of mental illness. I was delivered from the demonic torment that was creating the mental illness. After having between 40-60 demons cast out of my body I was 100% free from every single symptom of mental illness. I went from having symptoms 24/7 to not having a single symptom since May 24th, 2020. That is why I post so much about this topic and teach so much about it.

I was in torment for years and I never once heard a sermon or teaching about demonization and deliverance until I was in my early 40’s and I had been saved and in the church from the time I was 18 years old. I have had many reach out to me for help and God has set them free. We need to talk more about this topic and not be afraid of deliverance ministry. People are hurting and suffering and they have no where to go. This is a huge part of what the church was created for!! We, as Christians, are called to help people break free from the bondages of the enemy and help them walk in freedom.
