Recently, I have been thinking about when we are in times of carrying a deep burden, either for ourselves or others. It can feel so heavy, almost like we cannot catch the next breath.
It is in that moment that we have a choice. We can allow anxiety, fear, and worry to come in and speak doubt to our faith in God. We can allow it to grow and grow until we are paralyzed. We can allow it to get us stuck in analyzing the situation and all the what ifs. We can begin to wonder if God is even hearing our prayers. We can easily slip into fear, doubt, and anxiety.
Or we can take the situation to God in prayer and allow Him to do what only He can do. Worrying about something never changes the situation, but when we turn that worry into prayers God can move mountains.
Matthew 6:25-27 “Therefore I tell you, stop being worried or anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted) about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow [seed] nor reap [the harvest] nor gather [the crops] into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by worrying can add one hour to [the length of] his life?
It really is our choice in what we are going to do in each situation we face. Our choice will either draw us closer to God or drive us from Him; build our faith in Him or destroy it.
1 Peter 5:7
casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].
Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].
I want to encourage you to take all your cares, worries, doubts, and fears to God in prayer. Don’t allow them to build a wall between you and God. Be quick to lay your burdens down at His feet and ask for His healing, peace, and joy to pour out into your life.
Blessings,
