Demonic Attacks After Deliverance

I often hear people discussing the fact that they are being attacked by demons after they have been through deliverance. I think there is a major misconception that after deliverance there will be no more demonic attacks. That isn’t the case at all. We have an enemy that only wants to kill, steal, and destroy us and their attacks will not stop until we get to heaven. John 10:10.

Deliverance removes the demons from inside our bodies. If you go through the process of deliverance (closing all doors to the demons, verbally having them cast out in the name of Jesus, and then maintaining your freedom) it means the demons no longer have access to your body. However, they will still whisper lies to you, try to make you doubt God, try to get you to open doors back up to them, show themselves to you in order to create fear, try to make you sick, bring temptation, try to make you accept lies about your identity, create fear, and try to get you right back in the same bondages you were set free from. That is why we must never neglect spiritual warfare. We should not get hyper focused on demons, but we should also not ignore them. Walking in total surrender to God will help keep all doors closed to the demons and our relationship with God should always be our focus. He must be number one in our lives.

When I talk about personally being set 100% free I am not saying I am never attacked. I am attacked a lot, but my mind is my territory and with the help of God my mind stays free. It isn’t that demons never speak to me or that they do not attack, but I refuse to go back into bondage to them. I was horrifically tormented, and I refuse to spend one my moment in that bondage again.

Let me give you a few examples of the attacks I have faced since deliverance.

After my deliverance I started dealing with some new unexpected health issues. I had to see a couple of doctors and after one visit I got home and was sitting on my couch. I heard a demon say to me, “I am going to destroy you.” I knew in my spirit it was offering an exchange. I stop ministry and it lets up on the attacks. As soon as it spoke I felt a major wave of oppression trying to settle on my mind. My response was to resist as the Bible tells us to do. I verbally told the demon, “I am fully surrendered to God, I resist you, and you will obey His Word and leave.” James 4:7. It took a while of verbally confronting the demon, but the attack finally broke and it left. It was not a case of needing deliverance or being redemonized. It was a case of being demonically attacked in spiritual warfare.

Another time I was asleep and I woke up to what looked like a man standing beside my bed. The man started running at me over and over. I picked up my pillow to hit him, and it went straight through him. I then recognized it was a demon. As soon at that happened terror tried to take over my mind. Part of my wanted to run away and never go back in that room again, but I knew I had to fight that thing or I would be right back to being bound by a spirit of fear. I verbally commanded it to leave in the name of Jesus and it left. I got back in bed and went back to sleep. It was one small battle won, but if I had not fought back it would have been a huge open door to the enemy in my life and it would have created a bondage of fear.

When Ronnie and I were diagnosed with Covid a couple of years ago I immediately felt a spirit of fear attack me. It hit me in the chest like a wrecking ball and I felt it wrap around me. I had a choice at that very moment to go back into bondage or command it to go—I commanded it to go in the name of Jesus and it had no choice but to leave.

I woke up one night because I heard a man’s voice saying he was going to kill me. I felt him lay on top of my body and put his hand over my mouth. I could not speak or move, but I was finally able to whisper the name of Jesus and as soon as I did the demon left.

When my parents first moved to a different state I had the thought what if I fall back into depression. Immediately I heard the Lord say, “You did not have depression. You had a demon and I set you free from that demon.” That was a huge lesson for me because I learned that was not my thoughts at all. It was a demonic attack. I verbally commanded it to go in the name of Jesus and it went. After that as soon as I fell that kind of “thoughts” forming I verbally command them to go. I do not even let them fully form because I know it is demons speaking to me.

I have faced and continue to face many battles. We all have battles and no one is immune to them. There are battles that I am quick to recognize and fight back and there are others that take me longer to recognize. The enemy is slick and comes in many forms. Sometimes it is that whisper that makes you doubt yourself or God. It comes in many different ways and we have to learn to recognize every single one of them so we can fight against them.

When fear comes we have to choice to accept it or resist. When the memories of our past come we have the choice to accept or resist them. When the lies come we have the choice to accept or resist them. We are told to put on the full armor of God because we are in a battle. It is all around us and it never stops, but Jesus has given us authority over the enemy so that we can walk in freedom—but we have to learn how to walk in that authority. It takes work, consistency, and leaning fully on God. It is by His power and strength that we can be and stay free.

I just want to make it clear that we will all walk through battles and it is not strange when the battles happen. It does not automatically mean that you need more deliverance. You may need to learn to walk in the authority given to you, learn to walk in the identity given to you by God, seek healing, and learn to use the weapons of warfare that have been given to you by God.

Weapons of Warfare

Resist the devil: Every single time a demon whispers anything to you command it to stop and leave in the name of Jesus. Do not entertain the thoughts, analyze them, sit with them, or converse with them—make them go immediately.

Praise and Worship: When the enemy is fighting you shift your focus to God and the goodness of God. Turn up the praise and worship so loud that you cannot even hear the enemy.

Stand: Take your ground back and refuse to let the enemy in. Your mind, body, and home is your territory. Take you ground and make it off limits to the enemy. Every time they cross your boundary line, and they will cross it, immediately send them right back out.

Name of Jesus: Verbally command them to be silent and leave in the name of Jesus.

Prayer: God is a strong tower that you can and should run into!!

Discipline: Make sure you are staying in the Word of God and not neglecting your prayer life. Both are vital to your relationship with God.

Keep Doors Closed: Don’t let the demons convince you that you are in bondage again. If you have been set free by Jesus, you are free indeed! Don’t fall for their lies and end up in bondage again. Keep the doors closed, keep items out of your house that invites them in, and don’t become legalistic or hyper demon focused. Command them to go in the name of Jesus and do not take no for an answer. Some battles can last for hours, or days. Demons are relentless, but the good news is—greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world!
