Throughout this year, I plan to share scriptures where we dig deeper into the original meaning of words in that scripture. I’m finding that once we can fully understand what the words mean in the original Hebrew or Greek, it gives us a clearer understanding of God’s Word. For example, in our English language, we have the word love. We can say I love coffee, I love my kids, and I love my husband. Each time, it’s the same word “love”, but each time it’s used there is a different meaning. In Greek, there are 4 separate words for the word love, each one with its own meaning.

I had shared a scripture back in November and I will repost it hear to show what I will be sharing throughout this year.

HIDDEN TREASURES IN THE WORD

In reading Luke chapter 4 today, I looked a little deeper into verse 18 “he has sent me to heal the broken hearted”. The Greek word for broken is suntribo. This word was used to describe the crushing of grapes with the feet or the smashing and grinding of bones into dust. It is describing people who have been crushed by others or just by the cares of life.

The word heal in Greek is iaomai. It means to cure, but this is the part that I found so interesting. It means a progressive cure over a period of time. It’s a sickness that is healed progressively and not instantly.

We all know that God can heal instantly, but if your healing wasn’t instant, don’t be discouraged and lose hope. His Word says He will iaomai- heal us progressively over a period of time.
