Our Past

If we are constantly looking back we will never step into our future. The past has a way of stealing our purpose, hope, and joy if we are constantly looking back on it. We have to come to the point where we refuse to be a victim to the things that have happened to us. We must lay down the victimhood identity or we will never walk in true freedom.

Our past can only define us if we allow it to. We can use it as a lesson and we can also use it as our testimony, but when we carry it daily and refuse to lay it down it can also become bondage that holds us right where we are-stuck in pain, defeat, and chains.

We can cry and beg God to take away the pain of the past with our mouths, but then hold on to the identity of being a victim with our actions. We cannot do both and walk in freedom. We must lay that identity down and speak over our lives who and what God says we are-even when we do not feel it. We must look forward and not back. We must refuse to let the past define who we are.

If you want the chains of the past to break start calling yourself who God says you are and not who your past tries to say you are, stop focusing on the past and look to the future, and focus on your kingdom purpose.

Ask God to show you who He created you to be and reject every thing else. Get in His Word to see what He says about you, your purpose, and how He feels about you.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
