I was recently reminded of something I saw a few years ago. When we lived in Arizona we used to love driving around the desert and exploring. We had always lived in Indiana and Arizona was about as different as you could get from what we were used to seeing. It was beautiful, but one thing that was somewhat common in the state was for fires to start during the dry seasons. Entire mountains could go up in smoke in a matter of days. The fires would spread very quickly because it was so dry and there was nothing to stop them.

On one of our outings we were driving through an area in the desert that had experienced a really bad fire. All around you could see burnt ground and burnt vegetation. Everything looked dead, but then I started spotting spurts of green growth literally coming out of the charred ground that was all around them. They were green and full of life. They were growing in the middle of death, a field of death. At the moment the Lord spoke to me and said that it is what it looks like when He brings beauty from the ashes of our lives.

What is dead in your life? What looks like it is to far gone to ever live again? Have you given up on it? You may have even dug a grave to burry it because you thought there was no way that it could ever breathe again.

I want to encourage you to look around for new life and new growth sprouting out of the ground that looked dead. In a moment He can breathe the breath of life into any situation and everything suddenly changes. Don’t give up! He brings life from death and beauty from ashes. Nothing is impossible for God!

Isaiah 61:3

To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
